The $100 billion rollout of federal recovery funds, along with significant contributions from the philanthropic community, has spurred transformative changes in education policies and practices at the national, state and district levels.

Despite these accomplishments, numerous challenges lie ahead amid the shifting political and economic landscape. With 2011 around the corner, the Department of Education will outline its plans for the coming school year and beyond.

In this national webinar for education funders presented by the Foundation Center, participants will hear from Secretary of Education Arne Duncan's Chief of Staff, Joanne Weiss, and Director of Philanthropic Initiatives, Suzanne Immerman, on several topics, including:

• What are the Department's key accomplishments of 2010 and what are the implications for the future?
• What are the Department's core areas of focus for the coming year?
• What roles can grantmakers play to build on the momentum for change?

After the presentation, two education funders (to be announced) will offer their comments on priorities and themes for the year ahead in education. Participants will then join the conversation by offering questions and comments.
