Volunteer Opportunity

SCG Volunteer Day is an opportunity to connect with other funders outside of the typical business environment while supporting worthy causes in the Southern California community. Southern California Grantmakers is therefore pleased to invite you to a special summer volunteer event at the beautifully rehabilitated Downtown Women’s Center (DWC).

The DWC opened its new and significantly larger building at the end of 2010. The Center’s six-story facility contains permanent housing and provides supportive services to more than 2,500 homeless and very low-income women each year.

Through its Day Center and Residence, the DWC provides more than 50,000 meals annually and houses the first women’s medical and mental health clinic on Skid Row. The new Center also features an innovative social enterprise--MADE by DWC--a store and café that sells unique handmade products created by DWC women collaborating with local artists.

Volunteer for a half-day project at the DWC and work with your colleagues to make a special meal together for 50 to 70 women. The Center will create a menu plan for us and will assist through the day’s activities. A private tour of the new DWC facility will also be included.
