Event Description

Join our upcoming Workforce Funders Group Meeting for a discussion on sector-based approaches and the role of intermediaries in building equitable pathways to economic mobility. As an intermediary launched in 1998 by the City of Los Angeles, L.A. Unified School District, and L.A. Community College District, UNITE-LA will share models for collaboration between employers, education institutions, and training partners to increase access to high-mobility careers for populations experiencing racial and historical disadvantage.  

Using collaborative efforts in the healthcare sector as a model, presenters will discuss:  

  • How the L.A. Region K-16 Collaborative is using local labor market information and education attainment data to identify inequities in access to quality jobs and their root causes 
  • How cross-sector & segment partners can work together to identify pain points and collective solutions in talent development pipelines 
  • Examples of how workforce programming can be designed to successfully create onramps to and completion of credentials with labor-market value for young people with barriers to employment

Mi-Sook Kim

Dean of College of Health, Human Services & Nursing, California State University, Dominguez Hills

Dr. Mi-Sook Kim, a prominent scholar, committed administrator, and fervent educator, holds a Ph.D. from Purdue University and an M.S. and B.S. from Chung-Ang University. Since July 2021, she has proudly served as the Dean of the College of Health, Human Services & Nursing (CHHSN) at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), infusing her extensive knowledge and experience into the Toro Nation community. A firm believer in the power of higher education as a vehicle for social change, Dr. Kim tirelessly champions equitable access to college education. Guided by her unwavering commitment to the mission and values of CSUDH, Dr. Kim is resolute in leveraging her capabilities and experiences to orchestrate transformative experiences for students and the broader community. In 2022, she led the groundbreaking Toro Health Pathways (THP) and LA-K 16 Pathways Initiatives funded by state grants alongside her CHHSN leadership team. She is also a key member of the Campton Community Health Profession Pathway (CCHPP) with community and educational leaders. These initiatives aim to inspire students towards careers in health professions and education, thereby cultivating a culturally and linguistically competent healthcare workforce and educators. Dr. Kim's passion, clear vision, and humble leadership consistently spark new ideas and drive positive change, making education more accessible and empowering our community to grow stronger!

Carrie Lemmon SCG Member

Senior Vice President, Systems Change Strategy, UNITE-LA

As Senior Vice President for Systems Change Strategy at UNITE-LA, Carrie Lemmon leads the organization’s efforts to transform and align public education and workforce systems in the Los Angeles region to advance equitable economic mobility for the rising workforce. She is driven by a passion for public service and the power to transform systems and change the odds for young people historically deprived of equal opportunities to succeed in school, career and life.

Through her twelve-year tenure at UNITE-LA, Carrie has stewarded numerous collaborative social change initiatives, including: regional commitment to the L.A. Compact’s cradle-to-career goals, the expansion of Community Schools in L.A. Unified, the L.A. Opportunity Youth Collaborative Foster Youth at Work campaign, and the launch of the L.A. Region K-16 Collaborative to accelerate equitable pathways to high growth careers.

A native of Los Angeles County, Carrie holds a bachelor’s degree from Pomona College and a Master of Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Outside of work, Carrie stays busy as a mom to two LAUSD elementary school students, Girl Scout Troop leader, AYSO referree, and PTA officer.

Bridget Netter SCG Member

Sr. Vice President, Programs & Talent Development, UNITE-LA

Bridget Netter is the Senior Vice President, Programs and Talent Development at UNITE-LA. Bridget leads UNITE-LA’s college access and workforce development programming to ensure young people have access to quality education and high mobility career pathways. She has 15+ years of experience managing corporate relationships driving employer engagement and fostering business and career education partnerships representing a broad range of high growth industries. Most recently, Bridget led efforts to launch UNITE-LA’s LA Regional Cleantech Career Academy in collaboration with a leading cleantech employer and community of partners.
Bridget’s extensive experience working in the private sector driving more equitable education and workforce development outcomes for students in the L.A. region includes serving on the LA Regional Coalition of Linked Learning leadership team; leading an ABE-LA partnership with Amgen Foundation, bringing professional biotech and research lab experiences to high school students; working with Mayor Garcetti’s workforce development team to develop and implement UNITE-LA’s South LA Scholars, ensuring students in South LA have access to paid summer internships.
Bridget has a Bachelor of Science in communication and is a graduate of the Southern California Leadership Network’s Leadership L.A. fellowship.
