This winter marks the start of a new legislative session, a new state budget proposal from the governor, and a newly-elected class of state lawmakers recently sworn into office. So, as we head into a fresh season of coalition-building, legislative proposals, policy analysis, and more, now is the time to brush up on the internal workings of the bill-making process in Sacramento to better understand effective advocacy approaches and how to best engage lawmakers; after all, our work is never done when it comes to bridging the gap between nonprofit sector priorities and the agendas of our state leaders.
If you’ve always wanted to ask Capitol experts and insiders questions about what happens at the Capitol and why, now’s your chance! We’ve assembled a panel of top lobbyists who have worked in Sacramento for years on an array of the state’s most pressing issues, including CalNonprofits’ Sacramento Advocate Jennifer Fearing. Please feel free to submit a question in the registration form!
This session will equip you with a new understanding of government relations, address misconceptions about lobbying, provide insights on the nature of politics in Sacramento, and leave you with tips of the trade for impactful advocacy and policy strategies.
The California Policy Forum is a unique partnership between CalNonprofits and Philanthropy California (Northern California Grantmakers, Catalyst of San Diego & Imperial Counties, Southern California Grantmakers) and the League of California Community Foundations. The California Policy Forum not only provides a platform to bring together the voice of nonprofits and philanthropy in our state but amplifies the sector's significance and priorities to policymakers and experts.
