The healthcare field has seen a significant drop in practitioners in the post-pandemic era with doctor shortages and underrepresentation of people of color in the industry continues to grow with the roll-back of affirmative action policies. In this session, learn how one funder partnered with the Black Equity Collective to design a workforce development pilot that builds on community assets, engages trusted messengers, and builds onramps to family-sustaining healthcare career pathways. Presenters will share lessons from their community-centered approach to grantmaking, and participants will hear directly from practitioners about the intersectional challenges (and opportunities) Black-led and serving organizations are facing amidst the growing need for direct services. Finally, funders will be able to reflect and draw on their peers' experiences and envision how increased representation in healthcare could simultaneously improve community health and economic outcomes.
SCG's Workforce Funders Collaborative convenes funders from various disciplines who work with systemically and historically excluded communities to promote equitable access to quality jobs in the Southern California region. The Collaborative meets quarterly and collaborates to share learnings, create networking opportunities, and explore funding models to inform individual and collective grantmaking.
