This event will serve as the official launch of our Mothers Rising Fund for Guaranteed Basic Income benefiting mothers and children in South Los Angeles. RSVP today!!! The event will take place October 11, 2023 at the California Science Center located in one of South LA’s most historic locations, Exposition Park. All proceeds will support our Guaranteed Basic Income (GBI) initiative and other critical supports for mothers in South LA. This event is free but sponsorships are encouraged! We can host 400 guests! Buses will be provided for South LA Residents traveling from Rising Communities partner churches and sustainability hubs.
In 2020, at our Women, Wealth and Equity Summit we released our report on the Price of Motherhood which indicated that mothers in South LA were short, on average, $443 per month in their effort to meet their basic needs. In partnership with the First 5 LA Best Start Communities and our participatory grant-making task force, comprised of elected South LA residents, this GBI initiative was funded to help bridge that financial gap for families. Our GBI initiative will also provide mothers with wraparound financial literacy support with a focus on exploring how strengthening their ability to participate in financial systems and leverage financial tools might impact their potential to close the wealth equity gap for women of color.
