Don’t miss this opportunity to hear an inspiring conversation between award-winning director Ava DuVernay and Roy Swan, head of Ford Foundation's Mission Investments Program, in which they will delve into the groundbreaking topic of empowering change in Hollywood through impact investing, focusing particularly on DuVernay's latest film, "Origin."

"Origin," inspired by Isabel Wilkerson’s influential 2020 nonfiction bestseller, “Caste: The Origins of our Discontents,” offers a profound exploration of the societal systems of social stratification and discrimination. This film not only serves as a cinematic masterpiece but also pioneers a new financing model in Hollywood, disrupting conventional structures and empowering filmmakers and artists. The $38 million film was financed through an innovative blended investment structure, spearheaded by the Ford Foundation alongside esteemed partners like Emerson Collective, Pivotal Ventures, and the Anne Wojcicki Foundation. This unique philanthropic partnership allowed DuVernay to independently write, cast, and produce the film.

This session will offer valuable insights into how impact investing can be leveraged to address structural inequities, reconstruct narratives, and empower lasting change.
