Event Description

This convening will take place nine days after the 2024 election, providing a space for funders to explore its impact on the environment in Southern California. At the national level, the next President will significantly influence the United States' response to the climate crisis. In California, Proposition 4, if passed, would authorize $10 billion in general obligation bonds for water management, wildfire prevention, and community protection. Additionally, local decisions throughout Southern California will shape environmental outcomes in various ways. 

During this convening, we’ll create a platform for funders to share their reactions to the election results and discuss how funding institutions across Southern California are strategizing to protect the environment, particularly in communities disproportionately affected by environmental injustices. After a networking lunch, we invite you to join the SCG Environmental Funders Steering Committee to plan the 2025 quarterly convenings for this group. This event is part of a series of quarterly conversations hosted by the Southern California Grantmakers Environmental Funders Group.

  • Seed ideas for potential funder collaboration and advocacy

The SCG Environmental Funders Group meets quarterly to educate prospective and current environmental funders about environmental challenges and opportunities in Southern California and foster collaboration, and share successes and challenges. Alfredo Gonzalez

Director of Environmental Equity and Justice , Resources Legacy Fund

Alfredo Gonzalez leads programs that broaden the constituency for environmental conservation. In addition to program management and grantmaking, he also provides policy and government relations support to myriad organizations, grounded in his more than 25 years of experience in natural resources and public infrastructure policy and funding. In 2018, he chaired the campaign committee for California’s Proposition 68, a $4 billion parks, water, and natural resources bond that included, among other provisions, $725 million for local parks in underserved communities. Prior to RLF, Alfredo served as director of the south coast and desert region for The Nature Conservancy, where he managed various programs, including large-scale land protection and habitat restoration across Southern California. Prior to that, he served in senior government affairs positions for the Southern California Association of Governments and the County of Santa Clara and was a policy analyst for the Latino Issues Forum. Alfredo received a BA in Communications from UC Berkeley and an MA in Public Administration from California State University, Los Angeles.

Angelo Logan SCG Member

Senior Director of Environmental and Climate Justice, Liberty Hill Foundation

Angelo Logan is the Senior Director for Environmental & Climate Justice at the Liberty Hill Foundation. Angelo was recently Policy and Campaign Director for the Moving Forward Network and is the co-founder of East Yard Communities for Environmental Justice.

For over 20 years, Angelo Logan has been advocating for his community and communities across the country impacted by industrial and transportation pollution. Angelo’s life experience allows him to provide his perspective through an environmental justice and equity lens.

Angelo serves on the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council- Member, Social and Environmental Entrepreneurs - Board of Directors, and the California EV Charging Infrastructure Strike Force- Co-Chair
