Time frame: April 2023 - October 2023
Compensation: $25/hr

Position Overview
SCG seeks an enthusiastic part-time Marketing Intern to join our Knowledge & Communications team in 2023. The Marketing Intern will support the digital communications, event marketing, and database management work of the Knowledge & Communications Team. This team consists of six (6) persons, including the intern: the Vice President of Knowledge & Communications; the Director of Storytelling & Communications; the Director of Equity, Arts, & Culture; the Manager of Data & Technology; and the Manager of Digital Strategies.
The Marketing Intern should be particularly interested in exploring email marketing and will get hands-on experience using our email client (Pardot) to build and design email templates, oversee our CRM database, and develop copywriting & editing skills for digital communications. The intern will gain valuable experience in branding and marketing SCG's signature events and connecting with foundation, philanthropy, nonprofit, and government professionals.
Our team is looking for a candidate that enjoys balancing creativity with technical skills and who is invested in the intersection of communications and racial equity.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Marketing:
- Oversee the production of all marketing email communications for SCG’s signature programs and conferences.
- Serve as an adviser in the planning and execution of digital marketing plans for SCG’s signature programs and conferences.
- Analyze marketing campaigns, make recommendations for improvement, and ensure all campaigns comply with current email best practices in the industry.
Content:
- Update SCG’s website, CRM database, and other digital platforms as needed.
- Leverage exceptional writing skills to ensure clarity and consistency of content across channels
- Ability to edit for substance and tone to ensure content exemplifies SCG’s voice and values.
Project Management:
- Fast learner with impeccable attention to detail and a proven track record of on-time delivery for complex projects with distributed ownership.
- Well-organized with the ability to be accountable for your projects

Qualifications
- Enrolled in:
- A master’s degree program in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Advertising, or related fields; or,
- An undergraduate program with previous experience in digital marketing, communications, or public relations.
- Entrepreneurial mindset and spirit
- Exceptional communication skills, including written and oral
- A keen eye for good design and an interest in arts and culture
- Previous experience with CRM and CMS is highly desired, or an interest in learning these systems.
- Previous experience with Pardot or other email marketing platforms is highly desired; knowledge of basic HTML is preferred.
- Strong experience with Google Suite of applications (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.).
- Ability to manage multiple projects under various deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Enthusiasm and passion for public service and a desire to make a positive change in the world
- Demonstrated knowledge and interest in Digital marketing with an emphasis in Email and Mobile Marketing
Compensation & Hours
Candidates can ideally work around 15-20 hours a week (maximum three days a week), with flexibility on schedule. You can commit to working with SCG for 6 to 9 months with the option of extending the internship. SCG’s offices are open, and employees can work in person, remotely, or a combination of both. Pay is $25 per hour.
Working Environment
We’re a virtual team but prefer candidates who are connected to communities in Southern California.
