Social Good Solutions (SGS) is a Black woman-owned and operated boutique consulting firm that works with philanthropic institutions, nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and institutions of higher education to design, operationalize and manage racial justice initiatives from concept to implementation.

Using a participatory framework and co-design approach, we support our clients in their journey to operationalize racial equity and social justice in organizational culture and in programs, services and strategies. Our work is organized across four main domains: Initiative Management, Organizational Culture Transformation, Strategic Advising and Special Projects.
The Leader, Health Initiatives is part of SGS’s Initiative Management team and is responsible for providing leadership in building, nurturing and growing networks of Black-led organizations; and fostering connections that yield effective collaboration within and across the ecosystems SGS facilitates. This position reports to the Managing Director, Programs & Operations and requires excellent communication, relationship-building, program development and project management skills combined with technical acumen and emotional intelligence.
This position is well suited for a dynamic self‐starter and collaborative team player who possesses the required skills to work in a close-knit, telework environment; is adaptable to various project needs; and possesses a desire to learn and contribute to racial justice movements.
Responsibilities
While projects may change over time, the Leader’s primary project portfolio includes the African American Infant and Maternal Mortality (AAIMM) Prevention Initiative and a Healthcare Workforce Development initiative (in development) with a dotted line informing other initiatives in the portfolio.
The Leader, Health Initiatives is expected to manage the day-to-day operations of these initiatives, support and advance the project goals specific to each, and nurture their unique networks of philanthropic partners and Blackled and Black-empowering nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles.
Project Leadership
- Work closely with the SGS team in general and the Initiative Management team specifically to understand the overall scope of work, key deliverables, and on-going support needed to effectively meet the project goals and community building needs of each initiative’s ecosystem partners.
- Serve as the principal liaison and central point of contact to a network of approximately 30 organizations and stakeholders in AAIMM and 10 organizations in Healthcare Workforce.
- Manage the Initiatives’ community co-design processes from concept to implementation, including strategy development and grantmaking.
- Align and weave the various component parts of each respective network—individuals, organizations, communities, funders, and other stakeholders—to routinely connect parts and people within and across groups, when appropriate.
- Conduct network mapping and landscape assessments of network assets and collaborative opportunities.
- Support all staff, consultants, and participants in having a basic understanding of the network’s approaches, values, and goals.
- Catalyze and support self-organizing among network participants.
- Co-design cohort learning opportunities for each project’s networks of Black-led Organizations (BLOs).
- Co-design philanthropic learning opportunities (i.e., briefings, learning sessions and site visits) with the Managing Director and/or Chief Architect.
- Respond to inquiries from potential BLOs.
- Identify, assess, and troubleshoot organizational development/community-building needs.
- Manage intra-network communications between organizational leaders; assess whether and when to connect partners across networks.
- Nurture and strengthen collaborative, supportive relationships with nonprofit organizations, partner organizations, community leaders and funders.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of methods and systems to assess the impact of each network’s programs and activities.
- Contribute thought partnership that advances greater team cohesion at both the project and organizational levels.
Administration & Operations
- Work with fiscal management partners to process vendor/consultant payments as well as community and grant agreements.
- Communicate with the firm’s Administrative Coordinator when support is needed for member meetings/events, both online and in-person.
- Organize applications, MOUs, and information related to CBOs members. Uploads documents to shared Google folders regularly.
- Follow-up on meeting action items to track and ensure completion.
- Prepare, edit & finalize high-quality materials and contribute to funder reports.
- Work with the Administrative Coordinator to track and record performance data in the online system.
- Track individual project tasks via Asana.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following professional and personal abilities, attributes and experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree required and 4-7 years of relevant experience in the nonprofit or philanthropic sectors.
- Experience working in a community-based organization in Los Angeles is strongly preferred; familiarity with funder grantmaking processes is helpful but not required.
- A background in community health and/or health equity is strongly preferred.
- Experience building and nurturing networks, coalitions, or communities of practice that encompass a range of perspectives, cultures, and backgrounds, including experience growing online/offline community connections.
- Cultural intelligence, evidenced by a shared lived experience and background living and/or working in communities served by SGS.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to conceptualize, design and manage projects with many moving parts.
- Deep attention to detail and exceptional organization skills.
- Experience in designing agendas, curating, and facilitating learning experiences is strongly preferred.
- Technical command of Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, Zoom, online meeting and project management tools; comfortability with exploring and incorporating new technologies.
- Forward and innovative thinking with the ability to observe and anticipate needs.
- Ability to self-manage in a virtual environment; manage time effectively and be responsive to various forms of communication.
- An exceptionally high work ethic with a sense of pride in one’s work.
- A high degree of professionalism combined with an ability to build relationships, trust, and rapport across a spectrum of stakeholders ranging from grassroots community leaders, clients, public officials, funders, peers, and team members.
- Open to learning, developing, feedback, and continuous improvement.
- Track record of having a deep commitment to racial equity and social justice.
- Reliable transportation. The ability to commute to events and in-person meetings is essential.
Salary & Benefits
This is a full-time, exempt position with a starting salary range of $80,000—$90,000 annually plus benefits. This position is remote with frequent local travel across Los Angeles County required.
SGS offers a range of benefits including:
