Job Summary
The Program Officer (PO) will grow, manage, and monitor a portfolio of grant programs and projects built around the LA Partnership’s thriving families agenda. The agenda currently includes but is not limited to efforts to ensure affordable, stable housing, strong community-based support for affordable, quality child care, providing cash and benefit supports to ensure economic stability and mobility, and educating local elected officials and candidates about what it takes to be an early childhood champion.
The PO will be responsible for building new and strengthening existing relationships with philanthropic partners, potential foundation partners, and non-profit leaders.
We are looking for a passionate, talented and experienced professional who will drive grantmaking strategies to support the LA Partnership’s array of current projects and to help identify and establish additional projects within the Thriving Families portfolio.
Responsibilities
Manage and Grow the LA Partnership Grantmaking Portfolio:
- Manage a portfolio of projects to advance the LA Partnership’s goals, including:
- Working with potential grantees to develop proposals (scopes of work, budgets, work plans)
- Preparing proposals for internal peer review (requiring concise and compelling writing)
- Ongoing communications and project oversight, all while learning and course correcting when needed.
- Drive and execute the LA Partnership’s grantmaking strategy for each project to ensure robust fundraising for each project.
- Identify opportunities for new projects, including innovative pilots, evidence-based models, deploying policy solutions to support the advancement of these models, and fundraising needs and opportunities to ensure project viability.
Thought Leader and Community Cultivation and Relationship-Building:
- Form deep, meaningful, and authentic relationships with philanthropic and community leaders involving high-touch tactics that include in-person and virtual interactions.
- Work with funders to help align on shared objectives and reporting to streamline workload for grantees supported through pooled and/or coordinated funding.
- Build and maintain expertise in the field of early childhood.
- Develop relationships with colleagues working on these issues in LA County, California, and nationally to understand practice and policy issues, barriers, and solutions and cultivate partners to help drive change.
- Keep abreast of key trends and activities in local and state early childhood policy and practice.
- Respond to requests for information and assistance, troubleshoot, and connect people to resources.
- Participate in and present at LA Partnership meetings and partner conferences.
- Work collaboratively with the Co-Executive Directors to effectively translate the Partnership’s vision and values into action.
Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain a robust network of philanthropic and non-profit contacts.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience independently developing and managing complex projects: setting goals, developing strategies, managing tasks, tracking work plans and measuring outcomes, and adjusting as needed based on progress.
- Ability to translate concepts into actions, with the courage to take calculated risks.
- Demonstrated experience working in philanthropy to build and manage funder initiatives, ideally including experience working with funder collaborations.
- Excellent writing, editing, analytical, and oral communication skills, including the ability to collect, review, synthesize, and present information and findings and translate complex ideas into clear, easy-to-understand concepts.
- Learning orientation with the ability to adapt quickly to change, strong appetite for complexity, and tolerance for uncertainty.
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines, as well as demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities.
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and remotely.
- Personable, engaging, and compassionate.
- Expert listener.
- Passion for early childhood and supporting low-income children and families with pathways out of poverty.
- 10 + years of experience in philanthropy and project management.
- Adept team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in diverse environments.
Salary & Benefits
Salary range: $5,000 - $7,500 per month
This is a part-time, contract position. Compensation is commensurate with education and work experience. The LA Partnership is a project of the California Community Foundation and does not provide benefits of any kind.
