Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of the Center for Designed Philanthropy, The Senior Philanthropy Advisor partners with clients to develop, implement, and manage charitable giving strategies that align with their values, goals, and financial objectives. This role involves providing expert guidance on charitable giving options, managing philanthropic funds, and facilitating connections with nonprofit organizations, foundations, and community partners. This role also involves managing The Foundation’s institutional Israel Grant portfolio and advising clients on funding recommendations related to Israel and combatting antisemitism.
Responsibilities
- Client Engagement and Relationship Management
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with a portfolio of clients to understand their philanthropic values, motivations, and long-term goals.
- Conduct thorough assessments to align clients’ charitable objectives with effective philanthropic strategies.
- Provide ongoing support and updates to a portfolio of clients, ensuring alignment with evolving priorities.
- Partner with the Development Officers on stewardship and cultivation of new clients and opening of new funds.
- Partner with lay leaders and Board committees on planning and implementation of strategic initiatives.
- Grantmaking and Program Development
- Research and evaluate nonprofit organizations and programs, assessing impact and alignment with clients’ interests.
- Assist clients with grantmaking, including proposal review, due diligence, and monitoring of funded programs.
- Develop metrics and evaluation processes to measure the impact and effectiveness of philanthropic initiatives.
- Maintain strong knowledge of a variety of areas of interest, most notably Israel and combatting antisemitism, via activities that may include site visits, meetings with nonprofit leaders & experts, and landscape analysis work.
- Work in collaboration with our on-the-ground Israel Grants Consultant to oversee all aspects of The Foundation’s Israel institutional grantmaking portfolio including development of dockets, review of reports, engagement of committees and communication and engagement with clients.
- Education and Advocacy
- Provide insights on trends in philanthropy, social issues, and innovative approaches to giving.
- Educate clients on social impact and help them become advocates within their communities.
- Organize and facilitate family meetings or client gatherings to discuss philanthropic goals and legacy planning.
- Collaboration and Networking
- Build relationships with nonprofit leaders, community organizations, and other philanthropic advisors.
- Partner with internal teams and external advisors (e.g., legal, financial) to provide comprehensive client service.
- Represent clients at events, conferences, and relevant forums to stay informed on current issues and opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Nonprofit Management, Business, Finance, Social Work); a master’s degree or CFRE (Certified Fund-Raising Executive) credential is a plus.
- 5+ years of experience in philanthropy, financial planning, nonprofit management, or related fields.
- Strong knowledge of charitable giving vehicles and philanthropic trends. Understanding of legal aspects of philanthropy, a plus. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to engage diverse clients and build long-term relationships.
- Strong knowledge of the Israel landscape as well as of organizations that work to combat antisemitism.
- Analytical and strategic thinking skills to advise on impactful philanthropic strategies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong project management skills.
Salary & Benefits
- Some travel may be required to meet with clients, attend conferences, and participate in community events.
- Flexible work environment with hybrid work schedule.
- Salary: $110,000 – $150,000 depending on skill sets, years of experience, training, certifications, and degrees earned. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range unless they exceed most of the job qualifications.
