Description
International hotelier Conrad N. Hilton established the grantmaking foundation that bears his name in 1944 to help people living in poverty and experiencing disadvantage worldwide. Today, the work continues, concentrating on efforts to improve early childhood development outcomes, support older youth as they transition from foster care, ensure opportunity youth can access career pathways, prevent homelessness, identify solutions to safe-water access, help integrate refugees into society and lift the work of Catholic sisters. Additionally, following selection by an independent, international jury, the Foundation annually awards the $2.5 million Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize to an organization doing extraordinary work to reduce human suffering. The Foundation is one of the world's largest, with assets of approximately $7 billion. The Strategy, Learning & Evaluation Department (SLED) is seeking a summer intern to assist the team of Strategy Officers who partner and support teams throughout the Foundation including the Programs Department. The SLED team consists of 8 team members who are individual specialists within their specific field of study, led by the Director of SLED, Sonia Moldovan. The Strategy intern will work closely with the Foundation's Strategy Officers. The Foundation has grown significantly in the last several years and the Strategy Officers support program teams with strategic planning, reporting, and project management. Job Summary- Support research and analysis of grantee feedback to identify opportunities for improvement in the grantmaking process
- Develop analyses and reporting tools to support cross-initiative coordination and collaboration in greater Los Angeles
- Research how other foundations promote equity in grantmaking to identify best practices
Recurring Work Activities
- Weekly initiative team meetings
- 1:1 project check-ins with mentor (weekly)
- Bi-weekly SLED team meetings
- In-office shadowing of different initiative staff members
- Lunches / coffee chats with Foundation staff
- Site visits with Initiative teams (as appropriate)
- Develop working relationships with staff at all levels of the organization
- Learn the processes and relationship building of cultivating new grantee partnerships
- Improve research and writing skills
- Improve presentation skills
- Strengthen capacity for data analysis, management, and visualization
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite
- Web search skills
- Information synthesis/analysis
- Basic media/data literacy
- Writing
Desired Education
- Preferred course of study to include Social science (eg: sociology, psychology, economics); Business; Education; Public health and/or policy or related
End of Program Expected Learning Objectives
- The intern will have developed networking, relationship-building, and analytical skills
- They will have produced at least one report and deliver at least one presentation internally
- Gain high proficiency in information technology tools - MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PPT
- The intern will gain an understanding of the field of philanthropy, grantmaking, and incorporating equity into funding decisions
Summer Internship Specifics
- Term length: 10-12 weeks
- Schedule: Hybrid, 2x in-person, Tuesday/Wednesday on Westlake Village campus: 1 Dole Drive, Westlake Village, CA 91362
- Hourly Pay: $21.00
- Full time weekly hours: 37.50
- Transportation Monthly Stipend: $250.00
