James Alva is the Founder & CEO of Adelante Partners Inc., which is a nonprofit and philanthropic consulting firm that is 100 percent staffed by people of color. His team of consultants advises their clients on various growth and philanthropic advisory strategies while maintaining an equity lens. Previously, he served on the executive team for Citigroup’s corporate philanthropy team. He has founded and served as the Executive Director of two other nonprofits in the technology and economic development space. He has helped to start numerous organizations such as ProAmerica Bank, the LA County Office of Financial Empowerment, the Ventanilla Financiera in partnership with the Mexican Consulate, and Tech Futures Group. He has served on 14 nonprofit Boards of Directors and currently serves on the Boards of So Cal Grantmakers, the Los Angeles LGBT Center Board, and the Foundation for the Los Angeles Community Colleges. James is a first-generation college graduate with a degree from Stanford University, where he served as a two-time President of his class. He and his husband are former foster parents and live in Pasadena with their twin boys, whom they have since adopted.
