L.A. Care Health Plan's mission is to provide access to quality health care for Los Angeles County's vulnerable and low income communities and residents and to support the safety net required to achieve that purpose.
Since its inception, L.A. Care has reinvested funds to support low income, vulnerable populations through community organizations and safety net providers. The Community Health Investment Fund (CHIF), administered by the Community Benefit Programs Department, was established in 2000 by the Board of Governors to support projects that improve quality, quantity and access to health care, strengthen community and public health and fill gaps in health coverage for low-income individuals in Los Angeles County.
