Welcoming Jonathan Schreiber and Joe Womac to SCG’s Board of Directors!
SoCal Grantmakers is excited to announce that Jonathan Schreiber (Vice President, Community Engagement, Cedars-Sinai) and Joe Womac (President, Specialty Family Foundation) have joined SCG's Board of Directors.
SCG's President & CEO, Christine Essel, and SCG's Board Nominations Committee selected and nominated Jonathan and Joe as candidates for the board late last year. Both candidates have extensive experience and leadership in the philanthropic sector and have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the betterment of communities in Southern California. During their time as SCG members, Jonathan and Joe have also shown their dedication to advancing SCG's vision of creating a more just and equitable world.

Jonathan Schreiber
Vice President, Community Engagement, Cedars-Sinai
Jonathan Schreiber, Cedars-Sinai’s Vice President of Community Engagement, leads the health system’s directed community benefit efforts to improve access to care and prevent chronic disease in targeted underserved areas in the local community. These efforts encompass the medical center’s major school-based programs in mental health services and nutrition education, its pediatric mobile medical unit, and all efforts focused on community health improvement programs for adults. Jonathan also founded and directs the hospital’s Community Benefit Giving Office, which grants $20-$30 million annually, making Cedars-Sinai the largest corporate philanthropist in Los Angeles. Bridging both the grantmaking and community health portfolios, Jonathan is also responsible for spearheading Cedars-Sinai’s Community Clinic Initiative, Mental Health Initiative, and the institutional efforts focused on addressing the local homelessness crisis.
Jonathan holds an MAEd, an MBA in Nonprofit Management, and an MSBA in Marketing Strategy. He is a recipient of a Wexner Graduate Fellowship and is a frequent lecturer for community-based organizations, leadership development programs, and graduate-level classes on change management and nonprofit marketing.
Joe Womac
President, Specialty Family Foundation
Joe Womac has served as President of the Specialty Family Foundation since 2013, where he has helped guide the Foundation's strategic and targeted investments in poverty alleviation. Currently, the Specialty Family Foundation's partnerships and grantmaking emphasize housing and education through collaborative and systemic impact. Before this role, Womac served as Executive Director of Seattle's Fulcrum Foundation from 2003-2013. In both roles, Joe and his teams have embraced positively disruptive concepts in poverty alleviation, often utilizing cross-sector collaborative grantmaking aimed at systems change.
Joe has served on many boards and commissions, including currently serving a term on the Advisory Board of the LA County Center for Strategic Partnerships, as Co-Anchor for the Foster Together Network Cross-Sector design team, as a Board Director of Queen of Angels Housing Alliance, and as a member of the LMU School of Education Board of Visitors. He has also served for years as a contributing member of SCG's Family Foundation Advisory Council. Joe holds degrees in law (JD, Seattle University), education (M.Ed., University of Notre Dame), Political Science and Communication Science (BA, University of Portland).
