It's 2022, and these “unprecedented times” we've been living through seem to have no end in sight. It is easy to name the chaos and uncertainty of the pandemic, racial inequities, and the threats to democracy that surround us—but rightly so, less easy to develop strategies and translate them into action. CSR and corporate philanthropy leaders have the opportunity to break down these economic and social barriers by driving innovation that builds resilience and delivers value both for companies and society.
Spike Lee's 1989 film Do The Right Thing centers on how race, social class, and privilege directly impact our lives, and its themes still ring true today. During our time together, we'll focus on similar themes diving into the approaches, strategies, and opportunities for companies. It may not be easy or comfortable, but deciding to do the right thing will guide corporate philanthropy, citizenship, and voice can take the lead in pushing for systemic change. How do we know what the right thing is? Who or what holds the decision-making in what the right thing is? Who or what should it be?
