Carmela Castellano-Garcia
President, Castellano Family Foundation
Ms. Castellano-Garcia currently serves as the President of the Board of Trustees of the Castellano Family Foundation. Prior to that she served as the Board’s Vice President since 2012. Founded by Alcario and Carmen Castellano in 2001, the Castellano Family Foundation has donated more than $7 million in grants to Santa Clara County nonprofits supporting Latino education, arts and culture, leadership and diversity. The Castellano Family Foundation also continually supports these local organizations guided by the values of community, family, social change, empathy and integrity. Related, she serves on the Board of National Center for Family Philanthropy.
Prior to joining CPCA, Ms. Castellano-Garcia served as the Founder and Executive Director of the Latino Coalition for a Healthy California (LCHC), a health care policy and advocacy organization seeking to improve access to health and human services for California's Latino population. Ms. Castellano-Garcia’s legal background includes six years as a Staff Attorney and Managing Attorney with Public Advocates, Inc., a public interest law firm in San Francisco, she currently serves on the board of the Greenlining Institute.
Ms. Castellano-Garcia is a graduate of Yale Law School and was recognized with the 2018 Yale Law School Merit Award. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University
Christine Essel

Most recently, she served as CEO for the Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Los Angeles (CRA/LA), with an annual budget exceeding $600 million, a staff of 260 employees and 32 project areas throughout the City of Los Angeles. In response to a statewide call by the legislature, Essel's leadership helped lay a critical foundation for the dissolution of the agency, leading to a successful redistribution of resources for schools and local governments, while ensuring the completion of many crucial affordable housing projects and other developments vitally important to the economic growth of the region.
She has been named to numerous Boards and Commissions over the years, serving as chair of the California Film Commission, the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency, the Hollywood Community Advisory Council, Alternative Living for the Aging and Central City Association. She also served as Vice‐Chair of the California Workforce Investment Board and FilmLA and was a member of the powerful Los Angeles World Airports Commission, Grand Avenue Project Joint Powers Authority and Los Angeles Development Fund. Essel has been honored by esteemed organizations such as City of Hope, National Women’s Political Committee, Alternative Living for the Aging, Weingart Center Partners, Central City Association and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. In 2016, she received the Leader of the Year Award from the Southern California Leadership Network. She has been named to the Non‐Profit Times “Power and Influence Top 50” for the past two years (2016 and 2017).

Since the Foundation’s establishment in 2016, he has driven efficiency for both the Board and grantees through the design, execution and ongoing innovation of Reissa’s grantmaking process and operations. Scott works directly with each Board Member and staff to craft and implement strategies in furtherance of the Foundation’s commitment to addressing social problems and improving the lives of vulnerable populations in California, New Mexico, and Texas. He ensures relationships with grantees are respectful, trust based and designed to empower the organizations while reducing the grant based administrative burdens. In addition, Scott ensures the Reissa Foundation is an active participant in the philanthropic community through multiple statewide and national collaboratives. Prior to joining Reissa, Scott cofounded Waterline Partners, a nationally recognized wealth management firm which was acquired by Northern Trust Bank, where he served as a national director in the wealth management investment practice.

Diane works at the intersection of philanthropy and capital markets. She creates opportunities for social change by facilitating the Social Impact investment process alongside individualized philanthropic investments.
Her current position as Director of Foundation and Client Relationships at Adasina Social Capital, allows Diane to merge her philanthropic experiences from the California Endowment, the Getty Museum, and various boards and councils with her current background in financial services.
Specifically, Diane supports foundations, nonprofits, corporate institutions, and individuals as they align their investment strategies with their day-to-day philanthropic missions using socially responsible investment strategies.
Committed to social justice in her philanthropic work, Diane is the immediate past Board Chair of the Women’s Foundation of California and is a current Board Member for the Ms. Foundation and a member of their Impact Investment Committee. Diane also serves as a member of the Carter Center Philanthropy Council, and was previously a member of the USC Board of Governors, and served in different capacities with organizations focused on supporting Women of Color and, specifically, Black communities.
A powerful and engaging presenter, Diane is frequently invited to speak at conferences and special events. Recent speaking appearances include the Mount Saint Mary’s Leadership Conference, Southern California Grantmakers, and Claremont Graduate University.

A native of Los Angeles, Diane enjoys 5K runs, the beach, wine tasting, photography, and walking with friends. She received her B.S. from the University of Southern California (Go Trojans!), and a Ph.D. and M.B.A. from Claremont Graduate University.

In 2009 Lisa founded Family Circle Advisors. With her team, she helps families increase the impact of their giving and navigate the complex family relationships critical to the successful governance of a family foundation. Lisa works with family foundations in the US and Latin America on board culture and development, governance, multi-generational engagement, and giving strategy.
Lisa is certified by 21/64 (a division of The Andrea & Charles Bronfman Philanthropies) as a multi - generational advisor to families, was trained by the National Center for Family Philanthropy as a facilitator and has studied Family Systems at the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family. Lisa has served as an advisor and board member to numerous organizations working to build and expand the philanthropic sector, including the USC Center on Philanthropy and Public Policy and the National Center for Family Philanthropy.
Lisa graduated from UCLA in 1991 and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society with a degree in social psychology.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Rachel attended University of California, Irvine for two years, transferring to Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon where she received her B.A. in Philosophy. After living in Portland for 10 years, Rachel returned to Los Angeles and received a Certificate in Graphic Design from Otis College of Art & Design. She pursued freelance design and then in 2003 was selected as the next Executive Director of her family’s foundation, Roth Family Foundation. She served in that role until December 2012, and currently serves as President. In 2016, she led the Foundation in the planning and implementation of a special anniversary grantmaking program which celebrated the Foundation’s 50th.
Rachel is active with several nonprofits in LA that focus on animal rescue and youth homelessness; she is a member-at-large and former Chair of the Executive Committee of the LA Partnership for Early Childhood Investment and serves on the Investors Committee; she co-chairs a donor-advised fund at Liberty Hill Foundation and serves on the Family Philanthropy Advisory Council for SoCal Grantmakers, as well as the Advisory Committee for the 2024 Annual Conference. She often speaks on funders’ panels as well.
In past years, she served as an Advisory board member of Peer Health Exchange – Los Angeles; served on the board of directors of P.S. Science, as well as the board of directors of Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, while also volunteering as a sex/health education high school speaker with the organization. She also served on the Advisory Committee for Liberty Hill Foundation’s annual CHANGE LA event and the former Membership Committee of Southern CA Grantmakers.

Before joining Cal Wellness in May 2015, she was accounting manager for the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and previously was controller for the Arizona State Retirement System. She began her career with Deloitte & Touche and has served as a controller, a CFO and a consultant for businesses in California and Arizona.
Rochelle possesses a strong interest in advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the philanthropic sector. Under her leadership, Cal Wellness has significantly increased the percentage of its corpus that is invested with diverse managers, and she has implemented policies requiring demonstrated commitment to DEI principles in deciding with whom the foundation invests. Alongside the foundation’s investment committee, Rochelle spearheaded the foundation’s effort to purposefully align its investment strategies with the foundation’s mission and values around health equity, while maintaining or improving investment performance. She has also overseen the development and implementation of the foundation’s program-related investment strategy.
Rochelle is a Certified Public Accountant. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting from Cal State, Northridge.
