In Spring 2023, Philanthropy California, in partnership with California Common Cause, hosted a half-day convening that examined California’s recent redistricting cycle. Speaker panels include community leaders and funders who discussed challenges, recommendations, and lessons learned. Conversations elevated the implications our redistricting process has on representation and elections and the urgent need for reform at the local level.
Though census and redistricting funders continue to make the case to start planning and investing early, speakers noted that further investments in commission recruitment, technical assistance, and local redistricting efforts are imperative to overall success.
