On September 23, 2019, Philanthropy California submitted a public comment to oppose the Department of Agriculture's proposed changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program’s categorical eligibility policy. This change would substantially restrict CalFresh, the state's implementation of SNAP, for over 230,000 adults, children, older adults, and individuals with disabilities in California and further escalate food insecurity. This rule would restrict food assistance benefits from those making over 130 percent of the federal poverty threshold ($32,630 for a family of four).
