Veteran Affairs
With more than 280,000 veterans, Los Angeles County has the largest population of veterans of all the counties in the United States. For many years. SCG has worked alongside its Veteran Funders Group and other veteran-serving organizations (VSO) to support greater coordination between VSOs and other safety net providers and encourage more significant investment in LA’s veterans and Military Family population.
Today, SCG is proud to be home to the SCG Veterans Funder Group, quarterly veteran-focused programs, and two robust veteran supporting collaborations: The Los Angeles County Veteran Peer Access Network (VPAN) and the Los Angeles Veterans Collaborative.
Los Angeles County Veteran Peer Access Network
The Los Angeles County Veteran Peer Access Network (VPAN) provides a high-quality, coordinated network of care that is easily accessible for Los Angeles County servicemembers, veterans, and their families through an enduring, world-class VPAN. It is specifically designed to be a long-term solution to improve and maximize client access to housing, wrap-around services (i.e. health, mental health, substance abuse support, education, training, employment, benefits, legal), and Veteran Service Organizations. VPAN envisions an LA County unified by shared intention and cross-sector collaboration that helps veterans and their families heal, grow and flourish. SCG serves as a fiscal intermediary for VPAN.
Los Angeles Veterans Collaborative
The Los Angeles Veterans Collaborative is a structured network of public, private, and government agencies working together to reduce suffering and improve the lives of veterans, service members, and military families in Los Angeles County. This work is achieved through strategically improving and coordinating their access to services, reducing barriers to care, and influencing policy.
Veteran Funders Group
SCG’s Veteran Funders Group focuses on members’ response efforts in relation to veterans and military families, trends and challenges our nonprofit partners are facing, and opportunities for philanthropy to take a strategic role in our region’s veteran space in the months and years to come. Meetings are led by SCGs Veteran Issues Consultant – Nate Graeser.
