SCG’s Democracy Hub
SoCal Grantmakers is committed to strengthening our democratic institutions and processes and advancing policies that build equitable communities across our state.
SCG's Policy & Government Relations team has created this Democracy Hub to provide our members with resources and opportunities to learn and take action as we prepare to navigate a new political landscape. This Democracy Hub is organized according to the four strategies our team developed alongside SCG's Public Policy Advisory Committee and Executive Management Team to support our members' policy and advocacy work. We invite you to explore our Democracy Hub below and to visit often, as this page will be updated into the new administration's first 100 days in office. As we look forward, SCG and our philanthropic community have an opportunity to strengthen our commitments to our communities, respond effectively to a new administration, and prepare for the changes happening across the local, state, and federal levels. If you have any questions or want to get involved, don’t hesitate to contact us at govrelations@socalgrantmakers.org.
Programming & Briefings
SCG will create spaces to provide nonpartisan information on potential changes from a new administration. We aim to support members interested in growing their policy and democracy efforts and those learning how to begin this work within their foundations. Our programs will include but are not limited to, regional funder briefings and webinars on local, state, and federal impacts on the sector.
Advocacy Opportunities & Messages
SCG will evaluate ongoing actions from the elected administration and highlight opportunities for funders to engage in advocacy. These efforts include tracking relevant legislation, regulation, and court decisions; monitoring impactful local, statewide, and national races; submitting public comments; crafting support or opposition statements; and tracking litigation related to uncertified election results.
Policy & Election Resources
SCG will curate resources to provide information on various aspects of elections, democracy, and voting rights work. This list of resources will continue to change and grow as we learn more about potential policy changes. If there is a resource that you believe highlights one of SCG’s regions, our policy priorities, or that would be relevant to our membership, please reach out to emily@socalgrantmakers.org.
Collaborations & Trusted Partners
SCG will continue to foster partnerships with community leaders, foundation leaders, and state and policy leaders with whom we can share information and coordinate actions. In determining the best role for SCG to play and how our voice will be most impactful, we also amplify the work that our partners and community organizations are doing. Some of our statewide civic and community-based organizations offering education and resources include:
